Bio:

Andrea Mika is a mathematics teacher at Jesuit High School of New Orleans. She has been in education for 14 years and began her career as an Americorps Service Scholar teaching Math and History in Michigan. She earned her BS in Education with a major in Mathematics from Central Michigan University. After volunteering with Catholic Charities and Jesuit Relief Services rebuilding homes in 2007, she chose to return to New Orleans to continue to serve as a middle and high school educator and private tutor. Since 2016 she has also presented at international Texas Instruments conferences to help fellow educators incorporate STEAM concepts such as coding into their math curriculum.

About the course:

This Summer’s course focuses on Applied Number Theory – mathematical applications related to the study of integers (e.g., -1, 2, 3). Key topics include binary numbers, cryptography and computer science.

NOTE: The course will be offered in person at Jesuit High School of New Orleans.. Further details such as safety protocols will be communicated to registrants.
